Roam Coffee started as a dream over six years ago in Central Coast California. Now serving the Durham Region, we strive to bring the excellence and culture of Californian third-wave coffee to our beautiful Ontario home. We are dedicated to coffee quality and sustainability, partnering with some of the best Canadian roasters and producers to bring you a local and environmentally-conscious cup.

Roam’s Story

Natalie Dookheran is a North Carolina-born, California-made, small business owner in Ontario’s Durham Region. She first became passionate about coffee when she was 17 and saw how coffee connects people. For Natalie, coffee is a creative outlet, an art, and a means to build community.

At 23, Natalie followed her dream to live on the beach and temporarily settled in southern California’s San Luis Obispo. This energetic, environmentally-conscious city was her introduction to Third Wave Coffee, where she was trained in the industry. Third Wave Coffee is a response to people wanting coffee that tastes good as it is. It focuses on the careful craft of accentuating the different flavour profiles of different beans through an attention to growing regions, processing and roasting methods. Beyond flavour, this movement devotes itself to the ethical care of coffee farmers and the sustainability of the entire coffee industry.

Natalie’s dream is that customers of Roam Coffee would leave personally inspired. Her hope is that a simple cup of coffee would be a conduit for remembering to think beyond ourselves, care for others in our community and care for the world at large.
